So I just picked up a 1993-99 era super chexx and noticed the goals register but the oh sound does not trigger and the the shots on goal do not register on the scoreboard. I looked online and proceeded to remove the ice surface to see if I could find the problem.
Upon inspecting the long oh sensor strip below the crease, the glass tube sensors do NOT look broken or burnt out. Does this sensor control the goal counter, oh sound and shots on goal all together? Or Just the "oh" sound and SOG?
I'm not an electronics specialist or anything so I'm a bit stuck here. Any insight about what this sensor actually controls and how to troubleshoot would be great
Thanks!!!!

Hey there,
I own a 1983 CHEXX machine, first gen. The glass tubes under the ice are magnetic reed switches. On my machine they trigger the crowd to go "Oh" when the puck gets near the goal. On the newer machines like yours I would think the reed switches could keep track of shots on goal as well. Check the wires leading from the reed switch board, they lead down through the table top into the base and join up with the motherboard. The goal sensor is triggered when the puck drops down the ramp towards the solenoid (at least on my machine thats how it is).
Do the shots on goal and "Oh" not work for both sides? Might be an issue with the mainboard?
You could also try and fire the machine up into a game with the ice and players off. You can manually trigger the sensors with the puck and see what happens. You can actually hear the switches activating on mine when the puck is passed over them. Sounds like a fine tinkling.
Could you take some pictures of your reed switches? I am curious if they are the same as mine... I need to replace mine I think as I have a sound error sometimes.. several of mine (3) are broken and I cannot find replacements.
Hope some of this helps... =) let me know what you discover!
Also welcome to the board... I am new here myself.
Cheers, D

Hey D, Thanks for the reply!! That's correct, both oh sensors do not work. I actually took off the ice surface again and cleaned the sensors for a 2nd time...this time I used a standard type of electric component cleaner spray and a cotton swab. I not only cleaned the crap out of the glass tubes but noticed that the solder mounds holding the glass tubes as well as the silver little "roads" that lead up to the solder buildups were just a slight bit chalky and grimy. I cleaned the crap out of them, tested the sensor and to my surprise "oooooohhhhh" and 1 shot on goal registered on the board!!!! Woohoo they work now. This is an EXACT replica of my sensor via the ICE website.

Hey that's awesome dude! Happy you got them working! So they now work for both sides? It's great if you don't have to replace the piece. Reed switches look like pretty precise components. Here's the part on ICE's website if you do need to replace them though www.icegame.com/image.aspx?ProductID=25043I took some pictures of mine as well... same thing only different haha. I don't think I can even find switches this big any more. Cheers man! Glad you got it working again.=)

Yea man both sides work now! I'm actually finding that my super chexx was a hurricane Sandy victim. It seems the water didn't get too high on the machine because it works amazingly perfect. The audio is a but "crunchy" but after cleaning the components they all work like new.
Wow I havnt seen an oh board like that! That's awesome. It's a shame yours are broken. Are you going to just update with the newer ones? Looks like the prong inlets on your oh sensor plug will fit the plug width of the new sensor just fine.
