The table I just acquired has had it's stock nets repaired (poorly) which gave me an idea to replace with metal. Should soon be hearing the clank of the post. I think I've thought of everything... Double bar to play off the side, inverted V to match the back deflector... is there anything I'm forgetting? They will be fully netted obviously. picasaweb.google.com/106201362824174149886/Chexx?authuser=0&feat=directlink

Nice job! How did you work with the metal? I've thought of doing this but would probably burn my house down.

Love your modification, great work. Has the metal been strong enough to resist deforming when nailed by the puck? It looks like it will have a good impact on disallowing puck pop out (which drives me nuts). Your nets look amazing, I like the extra effort you did with the wire to attach the netting with, looks awesome!

Me too- that is an awesome job, and anything that keeps the puck in the goal better is a great improvement in the game. Plus they look freakin' AWESOME!!!!

It's not in my plans to make any more at this point, but I don't have any issue helping out any other DIYers. They are very functional and work as good as original in back pucks returning to play, side net play, and better than original in goals popping out. I have had a few, but far less than before. Drop me a line, and get started!

Hey BJL - outstainding work. How are they holding up so far? I didn't see a reply regarding the metal. How did you work with the metal? Are those nails? Plus how did you create the wire for the net mounting? Just need some instruction and I'll give it a shot!!

akarr1122 The material for the nets are the ones your wife (If you have one) would use to wash delicate items. You can get them at most department stores. People I know have also used insect netting that you can get at camping stores. The insect netting have a more realistic look but may not be strong enough for Chexx play. It works great for Coleco or Stiga table games.

I started this project just this evening! I went to Home Depot and bought a 3 foot section of 5/32 steel rod. Here are a few photos of how I started forming them. Attachments:

Then this, though I think I'll ditch using the curved top piece, it's overkill and after trying to do it, I looked back at the original pictures in here and realized I was making it too difficult. Attachments:
