Sorry I'm tardy with these - been a bit hectic lately for me. But anyway, here goes. I'll also include the link to my njbubblehockey.org website with the computor generated rankings I came up with a while back. You'll notice my personal opinion will differ from the numbers produced ranking list, but that's what makes it fun. Maybe ultimately we could combine the personal votes with the numbers, kinda like in college football. Though only about 8-10 people ever seem to vote whenever this topic has come up, so it's kinda a small sample. Anyway, enough babbling:
#10 - Brian Nelson (PA) - recent 2nd place finisher at the 2011 97.5/Fanatic event in Philly, and solid performer in the South Jersey Bubble Hockey League, playing hundreds of games against several Top 10 quality players and more than holding his own. Watch out for Brian if he gets some more national tourney experience.
#9 - Dan Giganti (NY) - gotta give this guy his due. Tied for 3rd at the ICE/Molson nationals in 2011, and also third at New Era in Buffalo in 2010. Maybe #9 is too low for this guy!
#8 - Al Jennings (MA) - been a great bubbler for a long time and would qualify for any Bubble Hockey Hall of Fame (if there was such a thing). Solid #2 showing in the local tourney prior to the recent nationals, but didn't win his table at nationals (though losing to Dan G. is nothing to be ashamed of!). If he is truly back on the scene I would expect his ranking to rise over the next few months/years.
#7 - Mark Wojtkiewicz (NY) - Here's where it gets tough. "Woj" is dynamite, with a bubble resume maybe 2nd to none on the planet. Local legend in Buffalo. Several great showings at the local Buffalo events and at nationals the past 2 years. But the guys ahead of him might be a little bit better, right now...
#6 - Doug Davis (MA) - another tough call here. This guy just finished 2nd at nationals in 2011, and beat a player I have ranked higher, but my rankings are not just spur of the moment - I am taking the past several years of bubbling into consideration. Howver, one more impressive showing out of this cat and I will raise him up - for sure. He's that good.
#5 - Bill Brooks (NJ) - recent winner of the 97.5/Fanatic tournament in Philly in 2011, top 5 finisher in Buffalo in 2011, he also won a NJ tournament in 2010. Great resume, great player, great guy!
#4 - Jimmy Schwartz (NJ) - another difficult call here for me, because I see Jimmy play all the time in my league and he is incredibly good at bubble hockey. He also has got 2 top 5 finishes at the last 2 National events (2010 and 2011), losing only to Kenny Dubois and Jeremy Davis, both of whom I have ranked higher. But Jimmy has several other smaller tourney wins the past few years in loaded fields at the NJ events - they have to count for something.
#3 - Kenny Dubois (MA) - he only plays bubble hockey at the big national events - in fact, the "bubble" is probably his least favorite table hockey game of all, and yet he is a virtual master at it. Two (2) 3rd place finishes at the past 2 Nationals in 2010 and 2011, losing only to Jeremy - it doesn't get much better than that.
#2 - John Gaffney (NJ) - dominated in winning the ICE Nationals in 2010, top 3 finish in Philly in 2011 (lost to #10 Brian), top 5 at Nationals in 2011 (lost to #6 Doug), winner in NJ in 2011 against a loaded field with 4 other top 10 players, and a whole host of 2nd place finishes in NJ tourneys over the years, usually losing out to...
#1 - Jeremy Davis (CT) - wins nearly every event he enters and hasn't finished lower than 3rd in any event in the past 3 years. Winner of the 2011 ICE/Molson Nationals, and odds on favorite to win the LaBatt tourney in 2012 (though no fair - NJ residents are excluded!!!
)
That's my call - here is the link to the NJbubbleHockey.org rankings if anyone is interested...
www.njbubblehockey.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=107:2011-world-bubble-hockey-rankings-revealed&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=2 ***For disclosure purposes, I did not consider too much the results from the tournament that was held the night before Nationals in Buffalo in 2011. That event was supposed to be a qualifier only, and turned into a quick tourney when they didn't get enough of a turnout for the qualifier. I know I barely made it there in time, without any intention of even playing, not knowing there was going to be a tourney, and I imagine that other people didn't attend because they had no idea a tournament was going to take place that day. Though, surprise surprise, Jeremy won it...but I didn't include that result in my computer rankings or really in my personal views on the Top 10 for that reason.
