Chexx has been around 30 years. Everyone knows where to get parts and how to repair them. This gives me peace of mind when I drop 2000-3000 on my new table.
However, I REALLY like the way MagneticTableHockey.com looks. I assume no real gears, moving parts or electronics exist on this thing. That makes for no headaches and no downtime due to maintenance. It seems to be a fun rec room game.
Has anyone played or seen a MTH game? I don't care that its square, that its 3-on-3 or that the players are small. I just want a fun hockey style game.
I'm not a repair guy. I hate tools and get frustrated when stuff doesn't work and I can't figure it out. Im a assuming a Super Chexx I buy new now will turn into a frustrating money pit in 5 years time.
Am I scaring myself out of the Chexx purchase for no reason?
Any and all insight is appreciated. If you haven't seen the Magnetic game, please check out the videos on their site and let me know your opinion. I need hockey!

I think you are scaring yourself for no reason The MTH does look intriguing, but I think the idea itself looks a bit more interesting than the game play. They don't have prices on their website so it's hard to for me to compare them value-wise. As for the Chexx, I think there is no way you'd be looking at a money pit in 5 years(assuming new/newer) unless you beat the hell out of it. These things are made for abuse, punk kids, bars, and still last many years with having little or no maintenance. Take one of them that are built like a tank, and put it in a private home, and there is no reason it shouldn't be something the kids inherit. Sure, there will be gear replacements down the road and some simple stuff like washer replacements, but there are many resources to help you with it, and icegame isn't going anywhere as you noted. Like you, I'm not too handy, but I haven't regretted my purchase one bit. Unless the MTH game is a ton cheaper and somehow just as much fun, I don't think it's quite the same. Something about the anthem starting and looking through that bubble that makes Chexx so unique!

Thanks weinergog! You are probably right. Super Chexx is the best. Base model of Magnetic Table Hockey with no customization is $3k. No audio or electronic scorekeeping.
I can get a fully loaded custom NHL Super Chexx from ICE for that price.
TWO QUESTIONS ON CHEXX WEINERDOG:
Has anyone built a back-saving base to raise the height of the game? I'm 6' 4" and don't want to have a back injury from Super Chexx!
Also - Has anyone seen the player paint work that ICE does on the NHL model? I know they don't do names or numbers on the jerseys, but how is the quality of their work?
thanks- I should probably start separate threads for these two topics. sorry.
