Does anyone know where to buy replacement lights for the period lamps on an 83 chexx? I have two burnt out on one side. I can see the lamps inside once I remove them from the scoreboard, but does anyone know where I can order replacements? Thanks for any help.

Not sure if this interests you as it was a lot of work, but I recently modified mine. I installed bulb holders by drilling a hole in the back of each white I C E light box. Now I have bright white LED bulbs in there. If any go bad, I can replace them much faster now (pull one out, plug one in, just like on the coin door). Plus they produce almost no heat.

Shirkle, i'm interested in your LED mod, as I have just undertaken getting my scoreboard back up and running after the prior owner fried it. I'd love to mod the lighting system like you have done to eliminate any heat related issues in the future. Can you post any details on type of LEDS/resistors etc..

I will post some pictures soon. I will warn that the way I did it is irreversible, but will never need reversed, even if you want to go back to incandescent lights. Here's a brief description of the mod: -Remove the light boxes (the white part that holds the current bulbs) -Snip out the old lights. -Drill a hole in the back of each box between the two already existing air holes. This is the irreversible step. -Place a socket in the hole. I had to file a small groove into opposite sides of the hole to make these fit. I chose ones that had wires coming out of them to make the next step really easy. I also glued them into place. Here are the ones I chose: www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/led-vehicle-replacement-bulbs/led-product/1150/2737/-Snip the wires on the sockets a little shorter, then solder them to the base of the male quick disconnect that was already on the light box. I did this so that the existing wiring would connect just like it used to. Just be sure to solder the wire very low down on the disconnects so that the original female connectors can still slide on. -That's about it. Just choose bulbs that will actually fit! I chose something like these, but with a wider angle: www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2FWLED-x6.htm#photosI would explore a little and try to find bulbs that do not flicker at all. The pinball community has resources for great LED bulbs. I went with cool white and I think they look great. Best of all- no heat. I also installed #1156 LED bulbs in the main playfield lighting. To make these look great, you really need ones that point downward. Also, to avoid any rewiring, you could get non-polarized bulbs. I just switched the wires around to make my polarized ones work. Again, I did this because there will be no heat coming from the LEDs. Pictures soon. I'm sure there are probably better ways to do it. This just made sense to me. The only thing is to make sure there is room between the end of t he bulb and the "I" "C" "E" covers and that the light has a wide angel, otherwise it will make the centers very bright and the outsides a little dim.

Fantastic, I'm modifying my machine in an effort to make it "better" (in my eyes) and am not worried about original condition/restored and whatnot. Of course if original chexx machines go for a million at some Barret Jackson of coin op I'll want to shoot myself.... but somehow..... I doubt it. I'm working on a goal mod now that I'll post soon. Please pics, I'd love to see it!
