Hi, I'm a Stiga guy but love the idea of the quality and power of the Chexx game. I don't own a Chexx but hope to one day. One complaint I have with the Chexx though is the rather simplistic slot pattern. As most of you likely know the Stiga slot pattern is pretty wild compared to the Chexx. But I realize the Stiga pattern on a Chexx just isn't feasible for the abuse a table has to sustain in a bar or at the local rink. But I was curious if anyone ever significantly modified one to be like a Stiga or Benej table.
I think it is certainly possible but it would be a very expensive modification. Like the Stiga, the tracks would have to be engineered to provide clearance for the movement of the rods since they would no longer be just straight back and forth. A photo in this post about the Stiga shows the ice surface removed (8th post at www.tablehockeyheaven.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1801). The Stiga slots pattern is pretty involved and the player gear boxes ride a rail on each side whereas the Chexx gear box rides inside a straight square slot. The Stiga left wing can make a wide turn behind the goal because its rod is hinged.
This Chexx repair website shows the Chexx playing mechanism with the ice surface removed (about 3/4 down the page at www.pinrepair.com/arcade/chexx.htm). Obviously the Chexx playing mechanism would not be easily modified for a Stiga like slot pattern.
I posted a WTB ad on Craigslist for a junked Chexx so maybe I can experiment if I can pick one up cheap.
I'd really like the members of this forum to weigh in and provide insight based on your vastly greater experience in all things Chexx.
Thanks, Steve
