Hi there, I am Derek in Canada and I have a 1983 Russia versus Canada Chexx hockey game. I am here to discuss problems and find solutions and share pictures with my new Chexx friends. Thanks for having a website to come to! My game is in rough shape now but everything works electronically except for the lights under the scoreboard and only 2 of the 6 period indicators light up. I think there is a burnt chip so i am going to mount an LED under the scoreboard with its own power supply. I will be looking for a solution for the burnt out period indicators. I will also be painting the players. I have already looked at some of the threads, good stuff! Feel free to message me. Cheers! Progress will be posted. Attachments:

I would like to add my story of how i got this. I know enthusiasts like myself enjoy this sort of thing. I used to read meters and came across the game in a dingy hotel basement. It said out of order on it and the guy who worked there said give me $500 and it's yours. I couldn't afford it. Each time I went back to read the meter he dropped the price until one day I told him I have $180 in my account, he said sold. I took it home in two trips with my little Ford Focus hatchback. So far I have spent $175 from the icegame.com website for new nets, a ribbon cable and other small parts. $100 was for the parts and $75 for shipping!!! Don't use UPS if possible. lol. I spent $40 more for new led's for under the scoreboard but they didn't work. I am not experienced technically or electronically. I took the motherboard in and they said that a burnt pin i have is actually working. I don't know if maybe my new replacement led's are the wrong voltage but i doubt that. they are the same fit and model as the originals. The problem as i saw it was that the bulbs are single terminal on the back and at some point the original owner tried to put in a double terminal bulb which is probably why that pin is fried. My only guess is a chip is burnt on the inside, visually they all look good, so, i ordered my new led and i will mount it under the scoreboard and just plug it in whenever i use the game. Hopefully the lighting will be good. That cost me $55. Total so far, $450 for everything which isn't too bad. Next is the period indicators which i am hoping to fix, i just need to find out how to replace the tiny bulbs somehow. Then i will buy some paint for the players. I guess everything will be about $500 to $600 when it's done. If i can keep it around that total I will be happy!

I read one thread on here that said if you use polarized led's u have to change the wiring and they way to avoid that is to use non polarized. well holy, i did not know that. I am going to try non polarized! wish me luck. who me? yes me. ok, good luck darerock. i am starting to think this site is just self therapy lol gotta love the existing threads on here.

Hi Darerock, welcome aboard! That's a pretty funny story, and what a deal! That might be the cheapest I've ever heard of anyone getting a super chexx table. I wish I could help more regarding the bulbs, I have yet to had to deal with those yet.
I love seeing these original tables restored, mine is only about 10 years old and I did a small re-furb on it, but nothing like these original tables, keep us updated! Good luck!

I've been looking at the led replacement bulbs as well, is that what you tried originally? Which non-polarized lights have you looked for?

I have good news, My scoreboard is done and ready to go!
the replacement bulbs i got from Canadian Tire were simple model 1156 auto bulbs.
I replaced all my period indicators with small non polarized bulbs and sockets i got from superbrightleds.com i simply soldered the back of the sockets to the tabs inside the scoreboard. My first soldering job ever! Works great, now all i have to do is paint the men and clean the bubble!
With the game, parts from icegame.com and bulbs and paint supplies i would say overall i am paying about $450 total, not bad i think!
I will post up some pictures soon.
Cheers, Derek
