Absolutly !!
Mine was doing that as well. And after investigating a while i found the reason why.
The way the program work is simple, unless you have another issue which i am not aware of. You will have to test for yourself before we can be 100% sure but....
Here's the tip:
If you are on free play. I am pretty sure yours is on that setting right now. When you turn on your machine you will hear what we call the "ATTRACT MODE SONG". The ATTRACT MODE SONG also plays as a boot up song right when you turn on the power switch on your chexx machine.
And If you press the "BOO BUTTON" while the "ATTRACT MODE SONG" is playing, the machine register's it, and once its done playing, the game will start automatically.
That being said, if you also press the "BOO BUTTON" more than once, lets say you press 3 times on it, while the "ATTRACT MODE SONG plays, it will register 3 press. And unfortunately, it keeps them in memory until all 3 games have been played. That means once youre first game is over, it will restart automatically for exactly 2 other more games.
Weird
yes and no.
The program is 10 years old +. I believe it was meant to be use for quarters in the first place. Because even if you have the Home version of the super chexx, it comes with the exact same board.
If you imagine the machine to be in an arcade. It would be set on quarters. You probably noticed that the "ATTRACT MODE SONG" plays every time you turn on the machine, and also every 5,10, minutes or so depending on youre setting. If a customer comes by and decides to pay for more than one game, and puts 4 quarters in the machine, it registers all 4 of them. (i know i've tried mine, i have the commercial version). And it will start a game and restart automatically for another 3 games until you've spent all 4 quarters.
You can say that its a bug that they should have fix, but they never did. In my opinion, when you are on the free play mode, it shouldn't register all youre BOO button press, however it seems to keep them in memory, and the weird thing is that it seems to happen only while the "ATTRACT MODE SONG is playing. If the "ATTRACT MODE SONG" is not playing it doesn't seem to register all the boo button press. Stupid ? maybe but that is the way the program seems to work out.
Anyway here's what you should do first.
(I take for granted that your machine is set on free play)
TEST # 1:
- Turn ON youre machine (don't press the boo button yet) wait until the "ATTRACT MODE SONG" is done playing.
- Then, press BOO (1 time only) to start. play the entire game and see if it will restart again by itself.
It should'nt.
After that, turn it off.
TEST # 2:
- Turn ON youre machine (press the boo button 2 times) wait until the "ATTRACT MODE SONG" is done playing.
- It should start the first game by itself, and after the first game is over, it will restart 1 more time by itself, and you should play a total of 2 games. Once both games are done, it shouldn't restart anymore and it will be ok for any other games you play.
You can try again by pressing the boo button 3-4 times if you wish, and you will see that it will play the exact same amount of press you did while the ATTRACT MODE SONG played.
Try this and get back to me. You could also have an electrical issue with your BOO button but for a 1 year old machine, i doubt it very much.
Also, i am not pretending that my theory is 100 % correct. Since there could have been some program revisions in the past that i am not aware of, my machine is a year 2005. But i doubt they have changed that much since then.
Awaiting youre reply. thanks.
