Hey guys, I just picked up an 83 Blue Chexx and decided to try to get some scratches out of the bubble. I bought a Meguiar's Headlight and Clear Plastic Restoration Kit and sanded with 800, 1000 and 3000 grit. I used the buffing pad on a corded drill with the PlastX then Nevus #2. It becomes pretty clear, but dries more cloudy in a few minutes after cleaning. Can anyone share any tips on restoring the dome to clear? Thank you, Rob Attachments:

I just did the same thing with another headlight cleaning kit. It's completely fogged now. Wiping it with mineral spirits cleared it up at first, but it hazed up again the next day. I used a corded drill with the buffing pad kit. I'll try an orbital buffer next with Novus 2. I hope that works. Have you had any luck with yours?

Racki, I went to Harbor Freight and bought the higher speed orbital buffer (1-6 speeds, 2000-6400 OPM) with the 3 different stick on foam pads: www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/polishers/6-in-57-amp-heavy-duty-dual-action-variable-speed-polisher-69924.html Using the Novus 2 or the Meguiers headlight kit compound, I went over the whole thing inside and out at a higher speed than the corded drill could do and it cleared right up. I started on the low speed 1 then cranked it up to full. The foam pads will start falling apart at higher speed so be prepared to have a few extra. Wipe the dome clean with a soft cloth and boom! I didn't use any mineral spirits as I thought maybe that would cause cloudiness...lol It was a PITA, but much improved!

Thanks for the info! The other day I bought the only orbital buffer I could find, which was a $30 black & decker with the bonnets, instead of switchable polishing pads. I used Novus 2, and I did 4 passes with it. Then buffed with a wool bonnet. It cleared up most of the cloudiness, but it still looks bad. I may need a higher speed buffer. What speed did you use on your buffer? I've heard too fast can be damaging.
