Probably like a lot of you, the group of people that I learned to play with never really had a chance to play many people outside our group. We had our own names for different moves: the Poulin, the Deek, the Pass-Up-High, the Sniper...
Anyway, our name for shaking the goalie was one of my favorites:
The Icequake!

You stop a breakaway by knowing your opponents preferences, watching the blade of the stick in relation to the skates, and if that doesn't help guess a side.
Shaking the goalie is the pool hall equivalent of just tapping the que ball behind another ball when you don't have a shot.
In other words...it's a good way to get your ass kicked.

Hi all, new here. I voted "Yes it is part of the game" but that's not ENTIRELY true. My goalie style is sort of "caffeine goalie". I guess you'd call it shaking, but never to the ends of the goalie slot, so that it affects where the puck sits. It's mostly trying to deke the center man to go to one side or the other. I gather that "freaking out" in goal, even if it doesn't bump the puck, is considered bad news? Wouldn't want to get I disagree kicked playing someone outside out group.

I (we) have no problem with an active goalie. Its only against KONE rules when you hit the left and right stops to make the puck jump of the ice. So the pucks walks away from the centerman. I agree about looking alive and keep the shooter guessing. Welcome aboard Jim

It's never really become a problem in my league because we all instantly recognized it as lame and boring. We tend to just give an opening and then try to take it away on breakaways.

It's lame, and was banned from tournament play down here instantly.

In foosball it is considered jarring, maybe rapid movement of the goal keep is okay as long as it doesn't jar the puck.

Here in the New Paltz NY league it was unanimously frowned upon. Everyone thought it was a cheap play.

Shaking the goalie is right up there with "The Puss# Pass" in my opinion. You can do it because the game itself allows it to be done but it is not encouraged and it is surely a good way to get your ass kicked. Any tournament that allows that type of play will never attract the seriously good players. Those types of moves are for beginners... Not that I am the best Chexx player out there (because I am not) but if I win or lose I expect it to be fair.

Hey there AirJerd, if it's Mark Steel that you are talking about, no he doesn't rely on that sort of cheap play on a consistant basis. I've played him a few times and he is a quality player. Nothing spectacular, but definitely a well rounded solid player. In my opinion, the only thing I'm not crazy about when I think of his game is that he likes to slow the game down a whole bunch. But other than that, he is capable of beating most of the people he would play. Anyway, I hope that helps with whatever rumor was out there.

Another thing he is capable of is acting like an AS#HOLE and taking the fun out of a tournament. When it gets that serious for you and it means that much then it's time to quit playing and get a life. That said, I don't remember the "push pass" being the signature move of his game but I will say that when things got tight he did resort to using it.
