[glow=red,2,300]TOURNAMENT BRACKET PLAY description[/glow]
Initial play in both doubles and singles will be bracket play to determine flight seedings for a double elimination tournament. The following bracket play and prize payout descriptions are a guide only at this point and are contingent upon 18 teams/36 players in the tournament using 6 assorted Chexx tables. Bracket play and/or prize payout may be adjusted slightly depending on tournament turnout and table utilization.
DOUBLES:
Play to start at 12:00 and conclude approximately 2:30-3:00pm.
In initial doubles play there will be 18 teams separated into 3 brackets of 6 teams each. Each team will play every other team in their respective bracket for a total of 5 games played. After the bracket play is completed, won/loss records will be tallied among all 18 teams. The teams with the top 10 won/loss records will be considered “A Flight” and will then play a double elimination tournament until an overall winner is determined. The bottom 8 will play a similar double elimination tournament as a “B Flight.” Trophies and/or other prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and possibly 3rd place finishers in “A” flight, and for 1st place in “B” flight.
***Double elimination will consist of teams playing a 3 game series while in the Winner’s bracket. Once a team falls into the Loser’s bracket, each game played will be single elimination from there forward. If the eventual Loser’s bracket finalist should beat the Winner’s bracket finalist in a 3 game series, a 1 game “winner take all” will be held to determine the overall flight winner.
SINGLES:
Play to start at 3:30-4:00pm and conclude approximately 7:00-8:00pm.
In singles play 36 players will be separated into 6 brackets of 6 players each. Each player will play every other player in his respective bracket for a total of 5 games played. After the bracket play is completed won/loss records will be tallied among all 36 players. The top 20 players will be considered “A Flight” and will then play a double elimination tournament until an overall winner is determined. The bottom 16 players will play a similar double elimination tournament as a “B Flight.” Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and possibly 3rd place finishers in “A” flight, and for 1st place in “B” flight.
***Double elimination will consist of players playing a 3 game series while in the Winner’s bracket. Once a player falls into the Loser’s bracket, each game played will be single elimination from there forward. If the eventual Loser’s bracket finalist should beat the Winner’s bracket finalist in a 3 game series, a 1 game “winner take all” will be held to determine the overall flight winner.
Note – Individual Brackets may be assigned a specific game table or tables for all games played in the bracket. Double elimination tournament games likewise may be played on assigned tables. The intention of assigned tables is to keep play moving and on a manageable schedule. Always keep in mind what table or tables you are to be playing on and make every effort to be on time for your scheduled game or games.
[glow=red,2,300]TOURNAMENT RULES[/glow]
Delaware Valley Bubble Hockey Classic – March 4, 2006
Just Sports Bar & Grill, Rt. 413, Bristol, PA
The Entry Fee is $25 per player and covers all game play, singles and doubles. Tournament check-in and table practice time are from 11:00–12:00pm, with game play to start promptly at 12:00pm. Game play in both singles and doubles will be a round robin format, followed by a flighted double elimination tournament.
1. Each game lasts approximately 5 minutes.
2. Game tables may be assigned for particular games. Side of play on a table should be mutually agreed upon. If that is not possible, side of play is picked by the higher numeric listing in a bracket or the higher seed in the tournament (1 being the highest, and so on). If a table is not assigned for a particular game, the higher seed picks the table of play and the lower seed picks the side of play on that table.
3. Any puck that pops immediately to the center man at face-off must be cleared out of the center slot and must touch another player before a legal goal may be scored. The goalie does not count as another player! If a goal is scored prior to this occurring, or if the puck pops directly into the net off the face-off, the player/team that scored the non-legal goal must immediately allow a goal to be scored in their own net to “even up” the score.
***If a non-legal goal determines the outcome of a game, the point must be replayed.
4. The puck must stay in the net to count as a goal.
5. If a team is ahead by 2 or more goals at the end of regulation, the game is considered over and the result final. Deposit the puck in a net and let the next game begin.
6. A 7 second rule applies at all times during play – the team with control of the puck must make an offense move within 7 seconds or a penalty may be called. The penalty results in loss of possession. In short, try to keep the action moving – deliberate slow-down tactics or stalling will not be permitted.
7. “Shaking” the goalie back and forth vigorously, excessive spinning of players, or otherwise manipulating the ice surface in an attempt to disrupt control of the puck from the opposing player is strictly prohibited. The penalty is loss of possession for the first infraction, a penalty shot from the center for subsequent infractions.
8. Any game malfunctions during play will result in the restart of the game from the beginning, unless both players agree during the game to resolve the issue and play on to completion. An example of a malfunction could be an incorrect scoreboard reading, loss of power, etc. A game’s result that is no longer in doubt at the time of the malfunction should be considered complete (i.e. – a 7 to 1 lead with 2 ticks left in the last period).
9. Roughing the game or poor sportsmanship during play will result in forfeit of a games or games; repeated violations will result in ejection from the tournament.
10. The bracket umpire has final say on all questions, rules, or disputes.
