The next "IceHouse Invitational - Burlington Bubble Classic" is scheduled for Saturday November 8th, 2008, in Burlington, NJ. More details will follow in the next few weeks, but the basics are thus: - SINGLES tourney, 16-20 player field, A/B/C flights, trophies, $20-$25 entry fee, beer/food included, maybe some giveaway prizes if I'm lucky. 3 Chexx tables, maybe a 4th. Let me know if there is interest out there. For those new to the board, I have run several tournaments over the years that I think have been well received - check out some of the posts on this site under "tournaments" (Burlington Bubble Classics, IceHouse Invitationals, NJ Bubble Hockey Championships, Del Val Classics I and II, etc). Or check out my website - www.njbubblehockey.org. Please post here if interested in the Nov 8th tourney, or email me direct at: njbubblehockey@verizon.net thanks - JG

if there is enough interest, I would consider doing "pick-up" doubles games as well on 11/08/08...

Friends from the Bubble world, I will Endorse the Jersey tournaments. I've had the opportunity to attend one and they run a top notch event. Those who can make the trip really ought to. In fact, If i can break away, I might see if I can make the trip from Utah and catch a Cheesesteak and a panzarotti as well. But I better start playing again soon or I'll be smashed by those Jersey players. They've got game!!!

Thanks for the props, Tony. Of course the real guy to beat is Jeremy - he has won all the house tournaments I've had (though I've taken him to the limit in the finals each time - I gotta find a way to get a ton of beers in me in peak my bubble game, but not go overboard and wear down at the end of the night. That's my challenge...).
Some players have already confirmed they are coming, including the Davis boys, Kieran, and some guys from my league. some other players have shown interest, too, including Tony out in Utah and some players from Michigan. Things are starting to shape up. Starting in October I'll get a player list together and post it here and on my website (www.njbubblehockey.org). More info to follow shortly...

Only about a month to go before the tournament in Burlington NJ. About 7-8 players are already in, so there is room for up to 12 more. A player list will come out later this week. If interested in playing in this event, email JG at: njbubblehockey@ verizon.net

[glow=red,2,300]All right, bubblers, time to raise it up a notch...[/glow]I have completely redesigned the format for the upcoming "IceHouse" Invitational 11/08/08 in Burlington, NJ... [glow=red,2,300]The new format???[/glow] [glow=red,2,300] South Jersey Bubble Hockey League (S.J.B.H.L.) takes on all comers!!![/glow] ;D That's right - here's the deal...We'll put all our S.J.B.H.L. league members in one pool, and anyone else who thinks they can hang in another pool. The 2 pools will play each other only (no inner-pool games), and whatever team has the most wins at the end of the night is crowned the champion. AND GETS THEIR $20 ENTRY FEE REFUNDED FOR EVERYONE ON THE TEAM!!![glow=red,2,300] Intrigued?!? [/glow]Hope so. I'd like to get an 8-10 man team from the S.J.B.H.L. and an equal #of players from outside the league (The Davis boys and Kieran from CT, Sully/Al/Sean Sparks from Boston, maybe JORD76 and Jason from Toronto, Justin from Ohio, Tony from Utah...) - whoever you want. If you don't come up with enough players, we'll let you have a "blind draw" from out of our player pool to round out your team and even up the sides if need be. We will do singles and doubles, kinda like a Ryder Cup format for those of you who follow golf. And a double elim tournament, too, with A, B, and C flights where you can really rack up some win points (3 points for a series win in the winner's bracket!). $20 entry fee per player. If I get 20 players, that is $400 - $200 will go back to the winning team, and the other $200 for food/beers/soda/water, etc. No trophies this time. [glow=red,2,300] Anyone interested now??? [/glow]The tourney is 4 weeks away, so I need to know who is definitely in...and let the trash talking begin... By the way, here is a potential S.J.B.H.L. lineup - Scott Storck, Bill Brooks, JG, Jason James, Brian Nelson, Dan Petitt, Zane Kalemba, Mark Krasner, maybe even Jim Bernard and "Monkey," LArry Jefford, Joe Tornotore, Glenn Curtis, just to name a few - anyone think they can hang???

4 days and no reply post to the "SJBHL vs all comers" showdown tournament 11/08/08?!? Jeremy, Doug, and Kieran from CT are in - no one else? Guess the bubble world really is dead. Stiga, Coleco, Benej, Munro - all these little rinky-dink table top hockey games (no offense) have a fanatical following, with guys traveling all over the country (and out of country) to play the games they love - Chexx doesn't have the same passionate following?!?!? Guess I better dust off my Stiga table. I know times are tough $$$wise, but my tourney is only $20, I'm feeding and boozing you, and you can win your $20 back at the end?!? Free entry fee, food, and drinks - anyone within 4-5 hours drive should be down with this, if you call yourself a bubbler!!! Or at least throw out a post here on Chexxfan to say why you can't make it. I've got about 7-8 guys from the SJBHL who are in, plus the Davis boys and Kieran - that's 10-11 players right there. Anyone else want to enter the tournament?!? I'm going to keep running them - no one else on the East Coast is holding any tournaments any time soon. Hope to see some of you 11/08/08 - if not, guess the SJBHL wins the showdown by forfeit!!! ;D

Here is a preliminary player list for the "IceHouse" Invitational to be held Saturday 11/08/08 in Burlington, NJ
SJBHL members JG Bill Brooks Brian Nelson Dan Petitt Jason James Larry Jefford Marc Krasner
league members "on the fence..."
Jimmy Schwartz Glenn Curtis Jim Bernard "Monkey"
"the others..."
Jeremy Davis Doug Davis Kieran Valla
PS - if we don not get enough of the "others" we will still hold the tournament with the same format (points accumulation), but we will hold a "blind draw" to determine the teams right before the opening games. Should be a great deal of fun either way! Anyone else want in - only 2 plus weeks to go...

Less than 2 weeks to go before the Burlington IceHouse Invitational "Challenge" Tournament. There are still up to 8 spots still open for the tournament as of today. A couple more players have expressed some interest, but nothing definite yet. We are definitely doing the "points accumulation" format:
1 point for each pool play win; 1 point for each loser's bracket series win; 3 points for each winner's bracket series win.
Team with the most points at the end is the winner and gets the entry fee money back for all the players. In the unlikely event of a points tie at the end of the tournament, both teams will select a head to head "blind lineup," and the players will play each other "shootout style" for 1 period at a time. If after 3 periods the game is tied (or gets tied in O/T), a new game will start with the same format, and play will continue until there is a winner.
I hope this will be a lot of fun and that everyone will get to play against (and maybe with) guys they usually don't get to play with - the Team format will also encourage guys to root for guys on their own team to do well, as opposed to every man for himself like at most tournaments. I am excited about it, and preliminary feedback has been all positive so far. If anyone still wants in let me know in the next week or so! Thanks.

The tournament in Burlington NJ is less 1 week away. There is no change to the player list at this time. If more names sign up I'll post them here on Chexxfan asap, as well as my website (www.njbubblehockey.org). For now looks like we'll go with 10 and we'll draw teams from a hat prior to starting tournament play. I'll submit a post after the tournament with all the results, and maybe pictures too. If anyone else wants to play this Saturday in NJ (11/08/08), respond here or email me by this Thursday night (11/06/08) - send email to JG: njbubblehockey@verizon.net
Thanks

2 more names to add to the Player List for the tourney this Saturday 11/08/08:
Jimmy Schwartz - NJ Jake Plaskey - NJ
That brings us up to at least 12 players, with the possibility of a few more last minute additions. The field is starting to shape up. If anyone else wants to play in this tournament, the field will stay open until midnight tomorrow night (Thursday 11/06/08). Respond to this post, or email JG @
njbubblehockey@verizon.net.
Cheers!

Cheers all:
First of all, thanks to everyone who came out this past Saturday for the bubble hockey tournament. As usual, everyone was more than gracious and I think everything went off without a hitch for the most part, and Lisa and I always appreciate how nice everyone is and how respectful of our home everyone is. I hope everyone had a good time, enough to eat and drink, and of course enjoyed a day a bubblin'. As always, I am open to suggestions and ideas on how to improve things, so please give me feedback.
Now, to the results..
We had 13 players come out on 11/08/08. For the "Challenge" I separated everyone into 2 teams, one with 6 players (the "South") and another with 7 players (the "North"). Really, it broke down into the 6 guys with the longest league affiliation in the South Jersey Bubble Hockey League (S.J.B.H.L.), vs the boys from Connecticut and some of my newer league members:
South - JG, Bill Brooks, Brian Nelson, Dan Petitt, Jason James, Jake Plaskey North - Jeremy Davis, Doug Davis, Kieran Valla, Jimmy Schwartz, Marc Krasner, Larry Jefford, and Mike Willis
In the doubles play in round, each win counted for 2 points for your Team's total. John and Dan teamed up to lead the South with a 2-1 record (4 points), Bill and Brian chipped in with a 2-2 mark (4 pts), and Jason and Jake went 1-2 (2 pts). Team total = 10 points. For the North, Jeremy and Doug went 2-0 (4 pts), Larry and Kieran went 1-2 (2 pts), the "floater" team of Marc and a rotating partner went 2-1 (4 pts), and Jimmy and Mike went 0-2 (0 pts). Team total = 10 points.
The doubles next went to a single elimination round. The South swept all 3 opening round 3-game series to earn 4 points each - John/Dan over Kieran/Larry, Bill/Brian over Jimmy/Mike, and Jason/Jake over Marc/Doug. That made the score South 22, North 10. In the next round of doubles, Jeremy/Doug took out Bill/Brian in a sweep, and John/Dan dispatched Jason/Jake - each Team earned another 4 points. Jeremy/Doug then swept John/Dan for 4 more points and the Doubles crown. Final point totals after the Doubles play: South 26, North 18.
On to singles play...
In singles, each Team only played the players on the other Team, with each win counting as 1 point for the winning Team:
South: JG - 7-0, 43 goals scored, only 14 allowed, and 2 big wins over the big guns on the North squad Jeremy and Doug; Bill - 7-0, 34 and 17, also with 2 big wins over Jeremy and Doug ; Brian - a solid 4-3, 23 scored and only 16 allowed; Dana- also a real solid 4-3, 27 and 26; Jason - 2-5; Jake - 1-6;
South Team points in singles = 25 (51 overall to this point)
North: Jeremy - 5-2, 35 scored and 24 allowed, a shocker considering that this guy is the best bubbler on the planet! Doug - 4-3, another shocker as this guy has mad skills too, but with a differential of +7 to gain the "A" flight over Kieran; Kieran - 4-3, differential of +1 - very good work considering he hasn't played dome in 7 months; Jimmy - 4-3 in his tournament debut, a real strong showing for the youngster; Larry - 2-4, another strong effort - Larry had a pre-tournament goal to do some damage in the "C" flight but he played his way right into the "B" flight! Mike - 1-6 - Mike is a newcomer to the NJ bubble world, but he showed some game in flashes; Marc - 0-7 - !?!? - what happened to the "B" flight runner-up from the the April '08 tourney???
North Team points in singles = 17 (there were 3 non-challenge games on the "North" side) - 35 points overall.
In the "A" flight double elimination round, each 3-game series win counted for 3 points in the winner's bracket and 1 point in the loser's bracket. #1 seeded John dumped #4 Doug in 2 games, and #3 Jeremy took down #2 Bill in 3 hard fought games. Jeremy then upended John easily in 2 games. In the loser's bracket, Bill took out both Doug and John but couldn't overcome Jeremy. So Jeremy Davis wins yet another tournament. The North earned 9 points in the "A" flight, the South 5 points
In the "B" flight, #4 seeded Jimmy and #5 Larry fought a war, with Jimmy winning by 1 goal in the 3rd game. #1 Brian ended the youngster's run in the winner's bracket with a 2-0 series drubbing. #3 Kieran beat #2 Dan in another hard fought 3 game series. Brian however prevailed over Kieran 2-0 to reach the finals. In the loser's bracket, Dan ran through Larry, Jimmy, and Kieran before finally losing to Brian in the finals. So Brian Nelson took home the "B" flight title. The South earned 12 points, and North earned another 6 points in the "B" flight. In the "C" flight, #1 seeded Jason washed over #4 Marc in 2 games, and #2 Jake ousted #3 Mike. Jason beat Jake in 2 games to reach the "C" finals. On the loser's side, Marc and Mike played a great series before Marc survived in 3 games. Marc then took out Jake in another 3 game slugfest. Marc continued his hot run with an upset of Jason in the first series of the finals, setting up another 3 game showdown for the "C" title. They split the 1st 2 games of the series, then decided to declare themselves co-champions of the "C." No points were awarded for the split title. Total points for the "C" - South = 9, North = 5. [glow=red,2,300]So the Challenge ended with the South Team amassing 77 points and the North coming in at 55 points.[/glow]
[glow=red,2,300]Thanks again to all who came out. Look for another tournament in April '09!!![/glow]
