We held the final week of the '2009 winter/spring regular season in the South Jersey Bubble Hockey League (S.J.B.H.L.) April 9th. 7 players made it out: John (JG) - 14-4 - an opening game varnishing by Brian (5-1) and 3 tough O/T losses to Bill Brooks. Fared pretty well the rest of night. JG looks strong heading into the playoffs, but the competition has been fierce all season - who will win the 1st Place Cystal Cup? Bill B. - 13-5 - 2 losses to young protege Jimmy, single losses to Brian, Bill M., and the always dangerous Larry. Bill did manage to hold onto the #3 spot in the season ending standings (see below). Jimmy and Brian - 12-6 - with Jimmy holding the head-to-head tiebreaker 2 games to 1. Jimmy was solid all night - only an 0-3 mark against John kept him out of the top spot for the evening. Bill M. - 8-10, with a bunch more tough luck /T losses all night. If the breaks start coming his way come playoff time, he will be a very dangerous foe indeed... Glenn and Larry - 2-16, with Glenn getting the nod via a 2-1 head-to-head record. Both played better than their records would indicate, and both are seeing their respective offensive games expand every night. These guys will be no easy out in the playoffs. For the season, 9 players qualified for the playoffs in this order (factoring a ranking system based on league ranking in total wins, winning %, # of league appearances, and strength of finish on any given league night - for a complete breakdown of the #'s that went into the rankings, go to www.njbubblehockey.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44:09powerrankings&catid=3:newsflash): 1) John - 4.11 2) Brian - 9.55 3) Bill B. - 12.83 (via better season long head-to-head record over Jimmy, 9 wins to 5) 4) Jimmy - 13.37 5) Dan - 19.16 6) Bill M. - 23.40(via better season long head-to-head record over Larry, 8 wins to 2) 7) Larry - 23.62 8) Joe - 34.25 9) Glenn - 38.25 ***Failed to make the required 3 league nights to qualify for playoffs (Marc - 34.50, Chris (Monkey) - 36.00, Scott - 40.00, John P. - 45.00, David - 47.00) Joe and Glenn will open the playoff tournament with a 3 game series. Playoff pairings will then be determined by the higher seeded player picking his opponent for a 3 game series. Winners advance, losers drop into the loser's bracket. The winner of the winner's bracket final will be the league champion. Everyone else will battle in a triple-elimination format for 2nd and 3rd place. Only the 9 eligible players can play in the season ending playoff tournament, now scheduled for Thursday April 23, 8:15pm. However, anyone is welcome to come and hang out that night. I'll have an open table for "challenge play" among league players and non-league players alike. See you all April 23rd! Wish me luck!!! JG
