The league will start up again Thursday night 01/15/09, 7:00pm. I just bought a 4th table - good Lord, I have a problem! But that just makes for more games to play in the old "IceHouse." If anyone is interested, respond to this post, or you can contact me through my website: www.njbubblehockey.orgJG

We had a couple late cancellations and thwarted are efforts at a double digit turnout, but we still had 8 players come out for week #1 of the 2009 Winter/Spring South Jersey Bubble Hockey League (S.J.B.H.L.) season - John, Bill, Brian, Dan, Glenn, Jimmy S., Joe, and Larry. Everyone played each other 2x for a total of 14 games played on the night per player. We used 3 of the 4 tables, including the new red based table. Here's the results: John (JG) - 13-1 - only loss was a 9-6 shoot-out with Dan that saw Dan scored an amazing 9 goals on only 11 shots!?! JG went 2-0 against everyone else in a good start to the season. Bill - 12-2 - only 2 losses were to JG; otherwise, he was his usual dominating self. Jimmy S. - 8-6 - his 6 losses included a staggering 5 by a single goal each, so his night could have been dramatically different with a bounce or 2. Dan and Brian - 7-7 each, with a split against each other. 2 very different styles of play, yet they are about as evenly matched as any 2 other players in the league. Larry - 5-9 - an up and down night for Larry, but a couple of big wins over Dan and Jimmy showed that he can play with anyone in the league when he has his "A" game going. Joe - 3-11 - but 6 of those losses were by 2 goals or less! Joe has had some of the worst luck under the dome the last 2 seasons - when the bounces start going his way, they are going to come in bunches so watch out! Glenn - 1-13 - with 5 losses by 2 goals or less. Glenn started to find some offensive moves as the evening went on, so his record could also turn around very quickly. [glow=red,2,300]The next league night is scheduled for Thursday Jan 29th, and then again the following Thursday Feb 5th. Start time 7:00pm. See you all then.[/glow] PS - the "gap" on the red based table is now up to par with the other tables (maybe even a little tighter)...I'll still slip an "o.p.p" in there!!!

As of 6pm tonight, we have 10 players set to battle in what would be the first double digit player turnout for a league night in S.J.B.H.L. history! That includes 3 "first-timers" to the league, so the league is growing all the time. New players are all still welcome at any time - email JG at: njbubblehockey@verizon.net. And check back here for all the updates and "power rankings" as the league bubbles on...or visit our website @ www.njbubblehockey.org. CHEERS!!!

We finally did it - 10 players for our last league night, and that is with a couple regulars out of the lineup!!! We had 3 brand new players come out for a league night this past Thurs 01/19/09, and the season debut of Marc Krasner as well. We used all 4 bubble tables, and a staggering total of 90 games were played on the night!!! Everyone played each other 2 times for a total of 18 games each, and here are the stats: Bill B. - 16-2, 109 scored, only 45 allowed, relentlessly proficient as always. Only losses were to John and Brian John (JG) - 15-3, 103 scored, 51 allowed - single losses to Bill B, Jimmy, and old/new nemesis Dan. Brian (B-Dawg) - 12-6, 81 scored, and a paltry 48 allowed (2nd best on the night). Real solid play all night from Brian, including a big "W" over Bill B. Jimmy S. - 11-7, 81 and 63 - after an 0-3 start to the night, Jimmy turned up his game and went 11-4 the rest of the way. Swept by Bill B., but a split or sweep of all his other opponents. Bill M. - 10-8, 78 and 73. League 1st timer Bill Michini may be a league "rookie" but he is no stranger to the dome. A fixture on the PA Bud Light "Bubble Boys" circuit a few years back, he got his game going well enough for a better than .500 record against some of the best players the SJBHL has to offer. Once he shakes off the rust, expect his record to improve even more. Larry - 9-9, 57 and 66 - LARRY'S 1ST EVER .500 RECORD IN LEAGUE HISTORY!!! Larry played great bubble all evening. Swept by Bill B and John, Larry carved out "w's" against everyone else. The key??? Look at the goals allowed - big improvement for Larry on defense, and he busted out an assortment of new offensive moves to go with his right d-man slapper. Good job, Larry! Dan - 8-10, 66 and 66. Very uneven night for Dan - played real solid on some occasions, and got flat waxed in other games. Disappointing for him, but the competition was outstanding all night. And Dan knows... it all comes down to playoffs...Playoffs?!? Don't talk about playoffs! Playoffs?!? Marc - 7-11, 50 and 56. Krasner made his 1st appearance of this league season and picked up right where he left off at the tournament in October - super stingy defense, smooth controlled offense. Unfortunately, he was plagued by a real slow start (1-9 in his first 9 games), but he came on strong on the "back nine" to end up with a decent showing. Scott N. - 2-16, 44 and 101. Scott made his SJBHL debut last Thursday and took some lumps the 1st time out. Of course, he picked a night when he had all the league's heavyhitters to deal with 2x/each. Scott has some offense and some good "d" as well - when he starts picking up the tricks of the trade his "w" total will rise throughout the season. David - 0-18, 20 and 120. Rough evening for David in his first night out in the league. He picked a tough night for his debut, considering the level of player who was in attendance. But there is no where to go but up, and he started showing some offense of his own later in the night. The next league night is this coming Thursday 02/05/09. 7:00pm start time. Let me know who is coming, and I'll see you all Thursday! [glow=red,2,300] PS - the next tournament at my place in Burlington, NJ, will be a Saturday afternoon in either late March or early/mid April. More info will come out shortly via email, or check for the tournament updates at www.njbubblehockey.org. [/glow] Cheers!

Greetings gents: We had 6 bubblers out for week #3 of the S.J.B.H.L. league season this past Thursday (02/05/09). Each player played the other 5 players 3x/each for a total of 15 games played on the night. Stats are attached. Here is a summary: John (JG) - 12-3, 85 scored and only 34 allowed, but another tough loss to Dan in O/T and 2 losses to young Jimmy Schwartz. Brian - 10-5. 3 losses to John dampened Brian's otherwise fine evening (10-2 vs the rest of the field). Jimmy S. - 9-6, 2nd most goals scored on the night. But an 0-3 vs Brian in a serious exchange of trash talkin' deflated his w/l record for the night. But the youngster keeps getting better - look out New Era! Dan - 7-8, another "hanging around the .500 mark" kinda night for Dan. Though I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Dan beat me about a gazillion times in a row after hours in some warm-up play for the Buffalo tournament in 2 weeks. Some warm-up by me - Yikes! I was abysmal, and Dan was flat on on fire! But hopefully I figured out the problems by the last game of the night (hopefully...'cause I still lost!) Bill M. - 6-9 for the 1st year league player. Not too shabby considering most of the league leaders were in the field and he had to play everyone 3x/each. Bill will be a force as the season progresses... Larry - 1-14. Ouch! Larry followed up his great play last week with some seriously schizophrenic bubble action - a staggering 6 overtime losses (that's just REALLY bad luck right there!), but an equally staggering 6 other losses by 5 goals or more!?! Tough night to figure. No bubble this coming Thursday - the next 3 league nights are all on consecutive weeks (02/19/09, 02/26/09, 03/05/09 - all Thursdays - 7:00pm start time). Look for the website (www.njbubblehockey.org) to be updated soon with a fresh new look (designed by Glenn). And the League "Power Rankings" will be out when the website update is complete. CHEERS All - see you in 2 weeks!!! JG

A quick summary from last Thursday's bubblin' (02/19/09) in the S.J.B.H.L.: 12-2 - John and Bill, split with each other, each with one other loss 9-5 - Dan 9-5 - Jimmy S., but lost both games to Dan to give Dan the edge on the night 8-6 - Brian 3-11 - Larry 2-12 - Marc 1-13 - Glenn The next 2 league nights are coming up back to back - this Thursday 02/26 and next Thursday 03/05. We'll shoot for 7:00pm but 7:30pm is probably more realistic. Guys can come over as early as 6:30pm for practice games if they want. PS - my website ( www.njbubblehockey.org) has been redesigned by Glenn and is up and running. It looks real good - check it out. I'm in the process of archiving some older articles to clean it up some, so bear with me on that for now. But check back often for updates. And the upcoming tournament at my place is set - Saturday April 18th, Burlington, NJ. Probably an 11:30am start, with a 4-5pm finish. Hope to see alot of league guys there, and as many from NJ as possible. The CT kids and some guys from Canada and perhaps Buffalo, NY, will be in attendance, so it should be a real good time. More info to follow soon... JG

8 guys came out for some bubblin' Thursday 02/26/09. Here's how the league action broke down: JG - 12-1 - was 12-0 before a last game loss to young Jimmy Schwartz cost JG a chance at a rare perfect evening; Jimmy S - 9-4 to capture the 2nd best record on the night as he continues to ascend the league standings Bill B. - 8-5 in a very "un-Bill Brooks like" performance. Bill started an almost unfathomable 0-4, but rebounded to go 8-1 the rest of the evening. The league is getting interesting indeed... Bill M. - a solid 6-7 with 3 O/T losses by 1 goal. He is shaking off the rust and will be a tough out in any playoff series Joe T. - 5-8, with 2 big wins over Bill M. and a very impressive 6-5 "W" over Bill Brooks! We're glad to have Joe back after his foot surgery, and his bubblin' was better than ever last week. Brian - 5-2 in an abbreviated night for B-Dawg, maddeningly efficient as always Scott N. - 3-10, with a big last game win over Joe and a couple other close losses. He started getting something going with the right d-man late in the evening, something the other players will need to keep an eye on... David - 1-12, with a sound upset of Joe and 5 tough losses by 2 goals or less. His game continues to improve each time out under the dome... Check out the updated [glow=red,2,300] www.njbubblehockey.org[/glow] The next league nights are as follows (all Thursdays): this week March 5th, March 19th, March 26th, April 9th, and the season ending playoffs are April 16th. Here are the results from the 03/19/09 league night - a more complete writeup is available at www.njbubblehockey.org, in the News section: John - 15-3 Bill B. - 13-5 Brian - 11-7 Dan - 9-9 (head to head over Jimmy 2 games to 1) Jimmy - 9-9 Larry - 4-14 John Power (making the trek down from Breezy Point, NY for some bubblin'!!!) - 2-16 The next league night is this coming Thursday March 26th, then the final regular season league night is Thursday April 9th. League Playoffs are the following Thursday April 16th. Right now, there are 8 players eligible for playoffs (minimum 3 league appearances): John, Bill B., Bill M., Brian, Dan, Jimmy, Joe, and Larry. 4 other players have made it out to 2 league nights and need to make at least 1 of the final 2 league nights (3/26 and/or 4/9) to qualify for the 4/16 playoffs: David, Glenn, Marc, and Scott. 2 others need to make both of the last 2 league nights to qualify for the playoffs: Monkey, John Power. As always, anyone else is still welcome to come and play in one of the last 2 league nights (3/26 and 4/9) but wouldn't be able to play in the playoffs 4/16. The league standings and Playoff Power rankings look like this (rankings determine playoff seedings - see the far right column): These are the current rankings as of 03/19/09: Player.... w/l..rank..win %..% rank..app. pts..sch strgth.. There was a tremendous display of bubble prowess last Thursday 03/26/09, by an unexpected source... On the night: JG - 15-2, 2 tough O/T losses to Dan and Larry (yes, Larry with a big "W" over JG 6-5, but that's not the story...) prevented a rare perfect evening in the SJBHL. John is solidly #1 heading into the playoffs, but will that translated into a SJBHL Crystal Cup??? Jimmy S. - 11-6, with the tiebreaker head to head on Dan for the night. Good, solid play all night. Though there were more sneaky p*ssy passes and back passes again from the youngster that riled up the veterans all night. They better get ready come playoff time, cause those plays are coming... Dan - 11-6 - solid offense and real good defense all night for Dan. 2 losses each to John, Jimmy, and Dan, but solid wins over all 3 of them, too, plus sweeps on the rest of the field. He has vowed (again!) that he will p*ssy pass the youngster to death in the playoffs - we'll see, we'll see... Brian - 10-7 - very uneven night for the league's #2 player. Scored fewer goals than he let in. Had big wins and staggering losses - more on that to follow... Larry - 5-12 - Started 1 and 5, rallied in round #2 to go 4-2 with wins over JG and young Jimmy, but then limped home 0-5 at the end of the night. Showed some serious offense moves at times, included the brand new "double footie." Larry also had a ridiculous 7 losses in overtime, so his night could have been over .500 real easy... Joe - 3-9 in an abbreviated session for "the painter." Continuing his run of bad luck, 4 of those losses were in overtime. When the breaks finally come this guy's way, they are going to come in bunches.... Glenn - 2-15 - Glenn started expanding his offensive game throughout the evening, scoring 4 goals 2x in losses and 5 goals in another loss. He played pretty good defense most of the night, too. Had a solid win over Larry, and the shocker of the season: [glow=red,2,300] Glenn 11, Brian 3 - and it wasn't that close!!![/glow] Glenn scored 11 goals on, get this, 11 shots?!?! Yep - 11 shots!!! Brian was literally helpless. Glenn scored with all 5 of his men, from all over the ice, slapshots, tip ins, defensive ram shots, you name it - he scored with it! I started out at the beginning of the game trying to give him a little advice when he had the puck, and joked to him "why don't you just score?" So he did - again, and again, and again, and again. Brian even tried a desperation p*ssy pass on him late in the 2nd period down 6-2, and Glenn stuffed and rammed it right into Brian's goal all in one motion. Incredible! For one night, one game, that was maybe the most dominating performance I've witnessed. and Brian didn't play bad!!! He had 15 shots on goal - Glenn's goalie was everywhere!!! Way to go Glenn! The next and last league regular season night in Thursday April 9th. Marc, Scott, and David can still qualify for the playoffs by coming out 04/09/09. Anyone can still come out April 9th, so come check out the league. Our season ending playoff tournament is slated for Thursday April 16th, with John, Bill, Bill, Brian, Dan, Glenn, Jimmy, Joe, and Larry already qualified. Hopefully we can get Marc, Scott, and David too for a 12 person playoff tournament - that would be sweet. Cheers all, see you in 2 weeks, and some of you I'll also see April 18th for the "Icehouse" tournament in Burlington, NJ. P.S. - Woj from Buffalo looks like he is in for April 18th - that's 14 players already!!! CHEERS ALL!
