My brother and I are repainting our Chexx players (soon to be the University of Vermont vs. the Charlestown Chiefs) and so far it's going OK, if slowly. I was wondering if anyone else has painted their own players and if they have any tips to share.
Right now we're using three brush sizes and have got the base colors down. I'm just wondering how I'm going to deal with the players' names and the Hanson brothers' eyeglasses. I guess I'd better not have too much caffeine, eh?

That is totally freaking awesome. I LOVE the goalie mask designs and their pads. The logos look excellent as well. Were they done with stickers?

The logo's are hand painted....HA, yeah right.. They are stickers that I had done locally. The numbers on the back are also stickers. The rest is all hand painted. I wanted the guys to look realistic so I took the time to make them right. I'll get some photo's of the other teams I have. I think they look pretty good as well but the above guys are a bit better.

BTW, I have two other sets of players that I am going to get working on soon (I hope). I am most likely going to make them the NY Rangers and either the Flames, Hurricanes or Devils. I have not decided for sure. Problem is finding the time to do them ......

Mmmmm....Flyers. Totally sick, dude! Is that glare, or a Nike logo on their helmets? Too funny.

Yep, old school Flyers. And you are 100% correct, that is a Nike logo on the helmets. Just one of my signatures that I added to the guys. I kinda like it but what a pain in the ass to paint !

As for the short stick guys, keep your eye on ebay because I often see players for sale there. Also, some of the guys here like Sully and Bubble Al may be able to hook you up. About the Carrom players fitting the Chexx game, I am unsure but once again Sully or Al might know. Lastly, about posting pictures. You need to find a website that will host the photo's and then copy the URL into the Chexx site in the proper place when you want to upload them to the site. Photobucket is one site that will work to host your pics. Good Luck [glow=red,2,300]CHEERS ![/glow]

I have repainted the players on both of my games and it's no easy task but I had fun doing it. Yes, a steady hand is necessary but I have no suggestions on how you might handle the glasses..That will be tough. As far as names go..That is another tough one. I decided against names on the jerseys for that very reason. I have a pretty steady hand but it would be too frustrating. One suggestion I have is to possible get a fine tipped Sharpie and try the names that way... Good Luck [glow=red,2,300]CHEERS[/glow]

What I did was clean the players very well to get any dirt off. I did not strip them of the original paint but I did lightly sand a few places where there were noticeable defects or chips that I thought might show when I repainted. I also sanded off that dot on the top of each players helmet which I would imagine is from the mold when they were made. I used Testers model paint (enamel). You cannot rush the job and you need to wait adequate time between coats for drying. When the final coat is complete (I recommend waiting a minimum of 24hrs) I sprayed them with clear lacquer. DON'T hold the can too close and spray evenly. If you concentrate the lacquer too much in one area you could make the paint run. I put several coats of lacquer on the players and then I added the logo's and numbers. I will say that the paint will chip off is certain spots (the skates especially) but that is inevitable. The paint chipping is why I do not paint the sticks. Every game I have ever seen where the sticks were painted has shown significant chipping on the sticks. Those things take too much of a beating between the shots and the flexing when players sticks lock together to have the paint hold. Good Luck and please post pictures after you finish painting.
